The Changing Choices Of BedsA bed is undoubtedly one of the most important pieces of furniture in our homes. We not only use our beds to sleep on or doze off after a day's work but to relax our tense muscles by sipping a cup of coffee while reclining with a book. It is the most personal space and thus tends to be the most comfortable place to lie/sit on. So, a wide variety of beds in different shapes and sizes are available today to meet all kinds of user needs. However it was not the same always. Hundreds of years ago beds were very simple, made of just hay or straw. Then their evolution began in the modern ages with the introduction of mattresses. The quality of mattresses improved with time, as things like straw, pea shucks, or feathers were used to fill the mattresses and they were covered with velvet. In the decade of 1930's the in-spring mattresses were introduced. These in spring mattresses were fit inside the wood bed frames and metal bed frames. These frames are still in use. Two decades later in the 1950's, beds with foam rubber mattresses and pillows were introduced. The next decade saw the emergence of modern air and water beds. The following decades marked the arrival of adjustable beds. These beds proved to be a big hit. This was because these beds could be adjusted to meet everyone's requirements. The air beds are perfect to be taken along on outdoor trips. Also they can be used as a form of temporary bedding at the home for the guests. There has been another innovation in air beds in form of the adjustable air bed models. These beds can be adjusted to sleep in a particular position to avoid back pain or any other type of physical pain. Earlier, the air beds were designed to be on the floor level. However with time the raised air bed models were introduced. These raised air beds are usually 20-26" (50-66 cm) off the ground level. There are also permanent air beds that replace the conventional beds. These beds are usually mounted on a special foundation. These beds are very popular and can easily be purchased from a wholesale air beds store. All in all, with the changing times and requirements the face of modern beds has changed a lot indeed. Today beds are available in all sizes, for all needs.
